Nursing Instructor? Will travel!! Campus Spotlight: Delta State University

A few weeks ago, I had the pleasure of taking a road trip to North Mississippi (affectionately known as the Delta!) Traveling to the Delta, for me, is like taking a “workcation” in my own state! The drive can be quite beautiful and educational, depending on what route you take. I, of course, took the scenic route. Passing through miles of farm land, the “Catfish Capital of the world,” and the birthplace of the legendary B.B. King! It was one of the most enjoyable road trips I have taken, considering the fact that I really dislike driving!

This review was held at Delta State University in Cleveland, MS. Like most universities, Delta State is rich in charm and tradition. Even though Cleveland is a “small town,” Delta State brings quite a bit of southern charm to the area. Cotton Row is a prime example! Cotton Row is an area in downtown Cleveland where you can find unique restaurants and fun shops! The vibe is very “bluesy” and the people are quite friendly. Exactly what you would expect when you visit any town in the Hospitality State!

The review consisted of all Delta State nursing students. This was such a fun group! They were so attentive and involved! We had an awesome time! The faculty that I met at this review were awesome as well. They were so gracious and very helpful. I never had to even turn the computer on! It was always ready to go for me when I got there! They were such a great team! Certain parts of Delta State’s campus remind me of my days at USM. Especially, the potential for flooding! Areas of Delta State will “flood” when it rains. This happened on the day before the review started, making it quite difficult to navigate my way around campus. It made me laugh because it looked quite like the area near “Frat Row” at Southern Miss! I kept praying my rental car wouldn’t stall. All I could think was “Turn around, don’t drown!”

Thank you so much to the students, faculty, and staff of Delta State for your warm hospitality shown toward a Southern Miss gal like myself! I can’t wait to come back to the land of cotton and teach again!

Here’s to the “Fighting Okra,”
