Dear whoever, you are a way-maker!

Certain careers come with a “calling.” A certainty that the person was born to do the very job they do. That they have the tools, know-how, and the character to perform the task at hand. Not everyone will be a preacher, teacher, nurse, physician, lawyer, politician, police officer, firefighter, or a member of our armed forces. We have the belief that if you are not in a human services style job, that you can’t create change.

We don’t realize how wrong we are. EVERYONE can create change. EVERYONE can help others see little miracles in their day-to-day activities. EVERYONE can be a way-maker. An elementary school janitor made one of the biggest impacts in my life. Watching him smile and care for students placed an impression on my life on how we are supposed to treat other people. You are not your job. You are who you are when the job is hard. You are who you are when the job ends. You are who you are when the job isn’t enough.

You don’t have to be some big shot lawyer or well-known physician or a celebrity to have influence and create change. The receptionist at the doctor’s office can set the tone for an entire visit, even when the diagnosis is poor. The Walmart greeter can make a trip to Walmart not so bad. And we all know how powerful that must be! The waste management crew can help us remain grateful that we have somewhere and someone to handle our trash, so we aren’t overrun by it. You are not your job. You bring your character into your job and you can create change daily by simply being you!

You get to go out every day and be a way-maker. A living, breathing, change-agent. Nothing is small. Even the smallest pebbles thrown into a pond, create ripples beyond the stone’s throw. Who are you going to impact by bringing who you are into your job? You never know, nor do you know how. We have the ability to save lives just by being ourselves. And you don’t even have to be a nurse or a physician to make that happen. So who is going to see goodness by seeing you? We are all way-makers. And that, friends, is an absolute miracle.

Be blessed,

A.G.
