Nursing Instructor? Will travel! Special edition: Youth Up Mentorship Program Health Fair

A few weeks ago, my family had a huge get-together in my hometown of Monticello, MS. The timing couldn’t be more perfect, because I was also asked to be a guest speaker at a health fair on the same day. I enjoy public speaking (crazy, huh?) Especially when I am asked to speak to youth about what I do. There is something so fulfilling and humbling about giving back to your community. This experience was no different.

The health fair took place in Hazelhurst, MS. The Youth Up Mentorship Program is a great resource for the youth of Copiah County and surrounding areas. The fact that they support and provide learning opportunities for their youth is beautiful. Children are the future and we need to provide them with all the tools necessary for success.

There were so many great vendors and speakers at this event. The kids got so much useful and pertinent information. The group consisted of youth ages 6-18. They didn’t seem all that excited to be up early on a Saturday, but they did perk up when the vendors starting giving them free stuff! We also gave away a door prize and the kids loved it!

If you ever get the opportunity to speak to those in your community or give back in any way, I highly encourage you to take the leap of faith and do it! You will be surprised at how much you can impact a life with your story, your passion, and your gifts. You don’t have to be famous to change lives! It is imperative that we show our youth all that they can become. Contrary to what we believe, they are listening. More importantly, they are watching. No human being has enough power over us to stunt our growth, stifle our spirit, or suppress our hope. Our children will be greater than we are and I will fight to the death to ensure it.

Here’s to new adventures,

A.G.
